Is this online hearing check accurate?
It's a screening tool only, not a clinical diagnosis. Results depend on your device speaker, volume and background noise, so treat it as a nudge, not an answer.
Does this replace a full hearing test?
No. A full hearing test with one of our HCPC-registered audiologists gives you the real picture in a relaxed 60 to 90 minute appointment, and it's free.
Do I need headphones for the check?
No. It plays through your device speaker: six tones from 500Hz up to a high 8kHz.
What happens after the check?
You get a plain-English result and, where relevant, a recommendation to book a free full hearing test at our Clevedon clinic.
Why does the check include a 6kHz tone?
Higher frequencies like 6kHz and 8kHz are often where hearing changes show up first, well before they affect everyday conversation, so testing them can flag an early change.
How long does the hearing check take?
About two minutes. There are six tones in total and you respond to each one as soon as you hear it.
